WV Jan van Ketel did not build a new marina in the Oude Industriehaven as stated. The Recreatiehaven of Schagen however, is established by the local authority in the Oude Industriehaven. There are visitor’s berths available on pontoons or alongside, with plenty of metered electricity and water points.
It is also possible to lay over winter if required; road/rail access is good. See: www.recreatiehavenschagen.nl.
Schagen is accessed from the Stolper Brug on the NorthHollandsCanal to the Recreatiehaven. Depths are 3m and all of the bridges open for yachts therefore Schagen is on the standing mast route.
Schagen is best visited on Thursdays in the summer months for the special Westfriesche market when locals wear traditional dress, and can be seen in a historical setting parading with horse drawn carriages through the town centre. The church tower is open for panoramic views as are small museums in the castle towers.
The WV Jan van Ketel haven is situated on the Schagen to Kolhorn Westfriesche Vaart. This canal can be reached from Schagen or Kolhorn but has height restriction of 2.9m under the N245 road bridge. The Jan van Ketel haven is immediately on the right bank once the bridge is passed.
