The Drecht waterway which joins the Oude Wetering to the junction of the Aarkanaal and the Amstel at Tolhuissluizen is no longer a permit-only waterway and can be freely cruised by visiting boats. The Drecht is an attractive rural waterway and a useful shortcut from the Braassemermeer to the Amstel.
The Drecht waterway is suitable for vessels with an air draught of less than 4m due to the fixed bridge at Leimuiden, and is not recommended for boats much more than 14m because of the angle the bridges are set at. Minimum depth along the waterway is 1.7m and maximum width of the waterway at Leimuiden Tolbrug is 6m.
Two opening bridges, the Tolbrug in Leimuiden and the Bilderdamsebrug open on request during the day (cruising season only) with the Bilderdamsebrug taking rush hour breaks on weekdays only (1200-1300 and 1800-1830).
Canalside moorings east of Tolbrug for short stays with the supermarket and facilities in Leimuiden a 10 minute walk away.
