The waterways of Friesland are formed by a series of large meers which are joined together by large and small waterways. The resulting network is a complex interconnected system, part of which forms a busy commercial route, with much of the rest being little used rural waterways. Friesland has the most water of any of the Dutch provinces and has a wealth of boating facilities and places to stop.
